From the roof of Blarney Castle; the Blarney Stone is up here too, but since I'd rather not run the risk of getting bits of stonework in my shiny new cornea I decided against sticking my head in that particular hole.

How very stylish! Also taken at Blarney; if you squint past the excellent job the auto-focus did (*cough*), you might be able to see I'm holding my beloved A-1. Just a shame I find using it rather difficult these days... *sigh*

Rock of Cashel
Date/Time: Aug 20, 2006 13:22:30
We only stopped in Cashel for a quick lunch on our way up to Dublin; I'd toured the Rock before, though, will have to see if I can dig up any photographs from previous trips.

Since it was getting on a bit and we still had a fair few miles to cover this was the closest I got to the Rock this time.

In the hotel guide we spotted this particular Marriott hotel in, the fountain looks rather like a nice long driveway...

OK, we admit we only took this one to show Bob_Cat (see "IRC-related stuff"!) Meh.
Phoenix Park, Dublin
Date/Time: Aug 21, 2006 14:35:49
Phoenix Park is, uhm, a bit big. We (read: I) decided it would make a good place to park in Dublin, then catch the tourist bus to get a look round the touristy bits of the city. A couple of years previously such a tour had proved very entertaining, and a useful way to get around without too much walking for my grandfather. It was just as entertaining this time, but unfortunately we managed to park over a mile from the bus stop in the Park; ah well, a nice spot of exercise anyway.
This is the better of my two attempts at photographing the Phoenix Monument; crud-eyes here couldn't quite make out which way the bird faced until he got back and looked at the pictures, otherwise I'd have stood in the median of the road around it and taken one head-on!

In the background, the round tower of the monastic city; I think any closer pictures of the ruins themselves are safely tucked away on a roll of 35mm in my camera bag...
Me at Glendalough

Again, showing my wonderful grasp of fashion and style. This time I'm cradling a T-80, unique amongst Canon's FD bodies in that it could also be used with three dedicated lenses with built-in auto-focus motors. Here, however, it's coupled with a 24mm example of the early run of FD lenses, hence the shiny chrome ring on the front.
